A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Hubert Tse in the Department of Microbiology, Molecular Genetics, and Immunology at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Our research program seeks to increase our understanding of the immunological and molecular mechanisms involved in autoimmune dysregulation in Type 1 diabetes (T1D). Through the use of novel murine models of T1D, human translational studies, and innovative technologies including spatial transcriptomics, single cell RNA-sequencing, and induced-pluripotent stem cells, we are interested in determining how reactive oxygen species (ROS) synthesis contributes to innate immune responses and autoreactive T cell effector mechanisms involved in pancreatic -cell destruction. Additional research projects in the lab include the use of novel immunoprotection strategies to delay islet transplantation rejection and to define the role of insulin-producing -cells in T1D. We seek a motivated, creative, and energetic applicant with excellent communication skills and organization. The laboratory uses immunological methods, molecular biology, cellular biochemistry, redox biology, murine models, imaging, and flow cytometry to discover and evaluate new mechanisms of autoimmune dysregulation.
