About The Position

The Instructional Technology Fellow (Post-Baccalaureate) works with the Research and Instructional Technology Group (RITG) to support teaching and learning at Pomona College. Designed for recent graduates, this fellowship-style appointment combines hands-on instructional technology work with structured mentorship, professional development, and opportunities for reflective practice and portfolio building. It is well suited for individuals interested in educational technology, instructional design, digital pedagogy, or academic support in higher education. In addition to contributing to instructional technology projects, the Fellow plays a key coordination role within RITG by helping organize, document, and review student team work. The position works closely with full-time instructional technologists and student staff, offering experience in project coordination, mentorship, and collaborative academic support. Over the course of the appointment, the Fellow will take on increasing responsibility for projects, develop an area of interest or specialization (e.g., accessibility, digital pedagogy, instructional media, or documentation design), and contribute original work informed by mentorship and feedback.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree completed prior to the start of the appointment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Interest in teaching and learning, instructional technology, or educational innovation
  • Interest in professional learning, reflective practice, or exploring careers in higher education or educational technology
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and adjust priorities as needed
  • Comfort collaborating with a diverse group of faculty, staff, and students

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with learning management systems such as Canvas
  • Experience with technical or instructional writing
  • Interest or experience in accessibility, digital design, artificial intelligence (AI), or educational media
  • Experience working with task-management or project-tracking tools (e.g., Trello)

Responsibilities

  • Assisting full-time instructional technologists with projects related to teaching and learning technologies
  • Writing and designing accessible web materials and documentation
  • Writing and editing blog posts that highlight instructional technology initiatives and faculty work
  • Developing help articles and video tutorials for tools supported by RITG
  • Assisting with the organization, upkeep, and improvement of the RITG website
  • Contributing to special projects related to instructional technology and digital pedagogy
  • Guiding project work for instructional technology student employees using Trello
  • Providing formative feedback to student employees for clarity, accuracy, accessibility, and alignment with project goals
  • Modeling professional communication, documentation practices, and collaborative workflows for student team members
  • Collaborating with full-time instructional technologists and student supervisors to support student employee workflows
  • Assisting with documentation of processes and best practices for student-led instructional technology work
  • Serving as a point of support and continuity for student projects across the academic year
  • Working with a supervisor to define individual learning goals for the fellowship year
  • Engaging in structured mentorship discussions around instructional design, digital pedagogy, and higher education careers
  • Developing a professional portfolio or capstone artifact (e.g., documentation set, tutorial series, case study, or blog series) reflecting work completed during the appointment
  • Presenting or sharing fellowship work internally (e.g., RITG showcase, workshop, or written reflection)
