About The Position

The Gordon Laboratory at Emory University is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Scholar to lead cutting-edge studies integrating mass spectrometry, molecular biology, and cellular engineering approaches to investigate molecular signaling pathways in immunity, cancer biology, and infectious disease biology. Our laboratory applies experimental and computational strategies to systematically dissect cellular pathways that regulate immune function, host–pathogen interactions, and therapeutic responses. This position will involve mass spectrometry–based analyses alongside cell culture, molecular biology, and genetic engineering approaches in mammalian systems. Primary responsibilities will include mass spectrometry operation and workflow development, experimental coordination, quantitative data analysis, literature review, development of new experimental approaches, and preparation and presentation of oral and written scientific reports.

Requirements

  • A doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., M.D., ScD., D.V.M., DDS etc) in an appropriate field.
  • Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills.
  • The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues.
  • Additional qualifications as specified by the Principal Investigator.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with cellular analysis methods such as flow cytometry, immunostaining, fluorescence microscopy, ELISA, western blotting, qPCR, or related techniques.
  • Experience applying genetic engineering approaches (e.g. CRISPR-Cas9).
  • Expertise in mass spectrometer operation.
  • Experience with mass spectrometry-based proteomics workflows and familiarity with LC-MS/MS instrumentation.
  • Strong foundational training in cell biology and molecular biology.
  • Mammalian tissue culture experience.
  • Hands-on experience cloning, amplifying, or purifying nucleic acids (e.g. DNA, RNA).
  • Prior experience with cell-based functional assays (e.g. cell viability, proliferation, apoptosis, cytotoxicity, or related assays).
  • Comfort analyzing large-scale quantitative datasets.

Responsibilities

  • Mass spectrometry operation and workflow development
  • Experimental coordination
  • Quantitative data analysis
  • Literature review
  • Development of new experimental approaches
  • Preparation and presentation of oral and written scientific reports

Benefits

  • Access to primary tissue samples
  • Extensive opportunities for collaboration
  • Exposure to rigorous basic science, translational research, and emerging opportunities at the interface of biology and therapeutic innovation
  • Opportunities for high-impact publication
  • Interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Career development in systems biology, immunology, virology, cancer biology, and translational research
