About The Position

Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota’s Intensive Community Residential Services (ICRS) programs serve individuals with intensive medical, behavioral, and mental health needs. Positive Support Specialists use a person-centered approach to help individuals work toward their goals while considering the safety of the individuals, team members, and community. Consistency and routine are important to these programs’ success. Specialists support individuals at home and in the community so they can participate in meaningful events and activities.

Requirements

• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a variety of individuals.
• Ability to stand, squat, bend, or walk for long periods.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Must be cleared by a Bureau of Criminal Affairs (BCA) background study.
• Must have a driver's license; a Motor Vehicle Check (MVR) is also required.
• Minimum of a high school diploma.
• Minimum of 1–2 years of experience working with people with complex needs.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of local community resources.
• A degree in a field relevant to the role.
• 3–5 years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist individuals in developing independence with essential life skills, including meal preparation, personal hygiene, and navigating the community.
• Advocate for the people supported regarding their rights, medical care, and participation in the community.
• Complete required documentation and record-keeping during every shift.
• Manage crisis situations safely and effectively, which may include potential use of manual restraints.
• Engage in trauma-informed care.
