Portfolio and Trading Specialist

RIA Recruiting•Austin, TX
•$90,000 - $120,000•Remote

About The Position

Oakwell Private Wealth Management is hiring its first Portfolio and Trading Specialist to implement the firm’s investment strategy for approximately fifty qualifying households. The role is permanently remote and is responsible for turning Investment Committee and outsourced Chief Investment Officer strategies and professionally managed models into household-specific implementation plans; it does not select the models or investment strategy. Working at the individual tax-lot level with advisors who own client relationships, the specialist builds and executes implementation strategies from transition through ongoing management. The work focuses on households with significant taxable assets, concentrated or legacy positions, embedded gains, trusts, executive compensation, and customized Investment Policy Statement requirements. Systems monitor portfolios, while the specialist reviews surfaced exceptions and opportunities and applies client-specific judgment. The role also includes a defined block of firmwide trade-quality work, phased in as household implementation stabilizes. The position reports to the Financial Planning Manager, with investment oversight from the Investment Committee. Trade authority, approval thresholds, and escalation procedures are defined in the role specification. Employment is subject to the firm’s Code of Ethics, personal trading pre-clearance, outside business activity disclosure, and a background check. The ideal start date is January 2027.

Requirements

  • Seven to ten years of experience in portfolio implementation, trading, or investment operations at a registered investment advisor, wealth manager, trust company, or asset manager.
  • Hands-on experience with rebalancing and trading platforms such as Orion Eclipse, Tamarac, iRebal, or similar, and major custodial platforms.
  • Working fluency in tax-lot accounting, wash sale rules, capital gains management, and tax-aware trading mechanics.
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, accounting, or a related field.
  • A documented-process mindset that prioritizes accuracy, fairness, and efficiency over speed, with the discipline to escalate rather than improvise.
  • Series 65 or investment adviser representative registration.
  • Compliance with the firm’s Code of Ethics, personal trading pre-clearance, outside business activity disclosure, and background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Schwab and Fidelity custodial platform experience are strongly preferred.
  • CFA, CIMA, or CFP designation; not required.
  • Experience hedging concentrated positions with covered calls, protective puts, or collars; valued for a later-phase capability rather than a first-year responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Develop written, multi-year diversification plans for concentrated and low-basis positions, execute them within each client’s capital gains budget, and pair them with loss harvesting.
  • Conduct systematic tax-loss harvesting with household-wide wash sale tracking.
  • Perform tax-aware rebalancing within defined bands and manage asset location across taxable, tax-deferred, and Roth accounts.
  • Implement multi-year, tax-budgeted allocation transitions.
  • Prepare tax-aware transition plans before assets move and create implementation plans for situations such as a business sale, inheritance, retirement income, or a large withdrawal.
  • Review and reconcile trade tickets across firm accounts on a cadence confirmed through capacity validation and phased in as household implementation stabilizes.
  • Document and escalate trading errors and exceptions, and coordinate with providers.
  • Partner with advisors by preparing implementation strategy documents and plain-language education for qualifying households, and proactively briefing them about milestones, risks, and opportunities.
  • Create and maintain operating procedures, household logs, and implementation records that allow a successor to assume the role.
  • Follow the role specification’s priorities and coverage procedures when volume spikes, balancing daily reconciliation deadlines with household tax work.
  • Complete the trading standard operating procedure learning, maintain clean reconciliation, and draft plans for the first wave of qualifying households during the first 90 days.
  • Within the first year, place every qualifying household on a written implementation plan, establish harvesting and household-wide wash sale surveillance on the agreed cadence, and complete the first transition wave.
  • Document and resolve errors and exceptions, manage realized gains within household budgets, and brief advisors proactively.

Benefits

  • Base salary of $90,000–$120,000 plus a quarterly bonus plan tied to implementation quality and firm performance.
  • Firm pays 75 percent of the employee’s health care cost.
  • 401(k) with company match.
  • Twenty days of paid time off plus additional firm holidays.
  • Cross-trained backup coverage to support time away and the firm’s two-week continuity standard.
  • Permanently remote position.
