About The Position

As a Porter, you’ll help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for older adults and staff at JASA’s Older Adult Center. Through daily cleaning, maintenance, repairs, and facility support, you’ll play an important role in ensuring the center operates efficiently and remains compliant with health and safety standards.

Requirements

  • High School diploma preferred.
  • Ability to read, speak, and follow directions in English.
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting, move furniture, and carry packages or equipment.
  • Ability to climb stairs, use ladders, bend, and perform physical maintenance tasks.
  • Basic knowledge of building maintenance and minor repair work preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license is helpful.
  • Availability to work evenings and/or weekends as required for emergency operations or City-funded initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Clean, dust, mop, wash, and wax floors throughout the facility.
  • Wash windows, fixtures, glass partitions, and accessible exterior windows.
  • Sweep, vacuum, shampoo floors, empty wastebaskets, and remove rubbish.
  • Dust desks, chairs, file cabinets, office furniture, equipment, and common areas.
  • Clean and disinfect kitchens, lavatories, and food preparation areas.
  • Restock paper dispensers and facility supplies as needed.
  • Remove marks from walls and maintain tile and composition flooring.
  • Perform minor maintenance and repair work including rough painting, sealing leaks, and replacing broken window panes.
  • Repair defective light switches, replace washers, install extension cords, and unclog plumbing lines.
  • Perform minor plumbing repairs and basic facility maintenance.
  • Repair doors, furniture, loose tiles, and patch cracks or holes.
  • Replace worn parts on simple machines and equipment.
  • Clean and maintain equipment located in mechanical rooms.
  • Set up rooms for lunch programs, classes, meetings, and center activities.
  • Support food program operations by cleaning kitchen equipment, stoves, sinks, utensils, and storage areas.
  • Unpack and store food supplies and materials.
  • Open and close the building daily, including securing offices, checking floors, and shutting off lights.
  • Work closely with JASA’s Director of Facilities and Operations to ensure compliance with City and State regulations.
  • Assist with Cooling Center operations and other emergency preparedness initiatives.
  • Participate in Make-Up Days, Cooling Center Hours, or emergency operations as required by City funders.
  • Be available to work extended hours or weekends when necessary to support older adult center members.
  • Perform additional duties and assignments as requested.
