About The Position

The Facilities Porter maintains a clean, safe, sanitary, and welcoming environment within BRC residential, shelter, and program facilities. Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor or Facilities Manager, the porter performs custodial services, supports building maintenance, manages sanitation and waste, conducts facility inspections, and helps with general property upkeep. The role supports facility operations, workplace safety, and compliance while helping create a dignified environment for clients, staff, and visitors.

Work is performed primarily in residential, shelter, office, and program environments. The role involves frequent physical activity and regular exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, waste materials, and varying indoor and outdoor conditions, with interaction throughout the workday with clients, visitors, contractors, and staff.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED preferred; equivalent experience considered.
• At least one year of experience in custodial services, porter services, janitorial work, housekeeping, facilities maintenance, building operations, environmental services, or property maintenance.
• Knowledge of commercial cleaning methods, sanitation procedures, and workplace safety practices.
• Ability to safely use cleaning equipment, custodial tools, and cleaning chemicals.
• Ability to follow maintenance procedures, work orders, and operational instructions.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness, safety, and customer service.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical duties including standing, walking, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and carrying materials.
• Ability to work effectively within a team-oriented facilities management environment.

Nice To Haves

• One or more years of experience in facilities operations, building maintenance, custodial services, environmental services, property management, or commercial cleaning.
• Experience working in supportive housing, homeless services, shelters, healthcare facilities, educational institutions, residential properties, or nonprofit organizations.
• Familiarity with OSHA standards, infection-control procedures, and preventive maintenance practices.
• Bilingual proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily custodial duties throughout residential, shelter, and office environments.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, sanitize, and disinfect common areas, offices, restrooms, kitchens, dining areas, and client spaces.
• Collect, remove, and properly dispose of trash, recycling, and other waste materials.
• Monitor and replenish cleaning supplies, paper products, and restroom supplies.
• Set up, move, or arrange furniture, equipment, and supplies for meetings and events.
• Complete routine building inspections and report maintenance issues, safety hazards, equipment failures, and repair needs.
• Perform light maintenance activities, such as changing light bulbs, and assist maintenance staff.
• Communicate facility needs and maintenance concerns to the Maintenance Supervisor or Facilities Manager.
• Provide customer service while interacting with clients, residents, visitors, vendors, and staff.
• Respond to cleaning emergencies and spills.
• Maintain cleaning logs and maintenance records and complete assigned documentation.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
