About The Position

Provides strategic and operational planning expertise to ensure efficient and effective port operations. Supports the execution of organization’s strategic, master, and long-range planning functions. Analyzes port infrastructure, identifies capacity constraints, and develops long-term plans to optimize port operations. Collaborates with stakeholders, including government agencies and partners to address challenges and implement solutions to improve port functionality. Works through peers and senior management and oversees work of direct and indirect reports as well as consultants to achieve desired results.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Planning, Architecture, Business Administration, Maritime Administration, Economics, or related major from a public or accredited private academic institution required.
Master’s degree in civil engineering, Transportation Planning, or a related field preferred.
Additional qualifications in port management or logistics are advantageous.
Experience (3+ years) in port planning, preferably in leadership role.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues and propose practical solutions.
Proficiency in using relevant software tools and technologies for data analysis and project management.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Project management experience, including the ability to manage multiple initiatives concurrently and meet deadlines.
Familiarity with environmental and regulatory considerations related to port operations.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Knowledge of port planning and project management.
Knowledge of port industry and marine terminal operations, engineering, and infrastructure.
Attention to detail and effective organizational skills.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement long-term strategic plans for port infrastructure and operations, considering factors such as projected cargo volumes, vessel traffic, and technological advancements.
Identify opportunities to optimize port capacity and efficiency.
Conduct comprehensive assessments of existing port infrastructure, including terminals, berths, storage facilities, and transportation networks.
Identify capacity constraints and recommend improvements to handle current and future demands.
Lead and participate in port expansion projects, including feasibility studies, site selection, and master planning.
Collaborate with architects, engineers, and consultants to design and develop new port facilities, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and environmental standards.
Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to gather information, understand their needs, and coordinate planning efforts.
Foster positive relationships and address concerns or challenges related to port operations.
Analyze port operations, including vessel scheduling, cargo handling processes, and logistics flows, to identify bottlenecks and areas for improvement.
Develop and implement strategies to enhance operational efficiency and reduce costs.
Stay up to date with relevant industry regulations, environmental standards, and safety guidelines.
Ensure that port plans and operations comply with legal requirements and industry best practices.
Collect and analyze data related to port operations, cargo volumes, and performance metrics.
Prepare reports and presentations to communicate findings, recommendations, and progress to senior management and stakeholders.
Develops and manages departmental budgets and resource plans.
Maintains status in professional associations.
