The Cook is a key member of the restaurant team, responsible for preparing and presenting quality food to guests. The role supports a convenient, one-stop shopping experience at TravelCenters of America and aims to help travelers return to the road better than they came. Cooks work in a customer-service-focused environment and may perform other job-related duties as assigned. The role involves food preparation and cooking, including washing, chopping, and sorting ingredients; setting up broiler, fryer, and grill stations according to line check sheets; preparing products to guest specifications; and following plate-presentation guides. Team members complete preparation, freezer-pull, and temperature-checklist sheets; follow safe food-handling, storage, and waste-control procedures; maintain equipment to operating standards; and follow safety guidelines, reporting potentially unsafe situations. Work is prioritized according to restaurant and guest needs, with communication and rapport among leaders and coworkers encouraged. The work may involve exposure to outdoor elements in all seasons, fumes and particles, moving mechanical parts, vibration, loud noise, dirt, dust, grime, grease, oil, gas, and concentrated cleaning solutions. Physical demands include regularly talking and hearing; occasional standing, walking, kneeling, stooping, bending, crouching, crawling, climbing, and repetitive leg use; and occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds or moving heavy objects. Required vision abilities include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Duties are performed with or without reasonable accommodation.
