About The Position

USA TODAY is offering a paid, grant-funded journalism internship to a college student at the undergraduate or graduate level. This 10-week program is for candidates interested in a career path in news reporting, with a focus on politics. This is a full-time internship embedded in the USA TODAY newsroom as a member of our politics coverage team. Expect to write stories on breaking and trending news as well as bigger-picture explainers and deeper dives into major issues in DC that influence candidates on the campaign trail and policy across the country. You’ll gain hands-on experience in areas like reporting and interviewing, writing headlines, and creating social media content. There will also be opportunities for training, networking, and skill development.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in or recently graduated from a university journalism program.
  • Strong writing, research, and fact-checking skills.
  • Familiarity with the fundamentals of journalistic writing and ethics.
  • Critical thinking, adaptability, and attention to detail.
  • Availability for some evening and weekend work.

Responsibilities

  • Write multiple stories per week, including breaking news, features and event coverage.
  • Conduct interviews.
  • Research and gather information from various sources.
  • Produce multimedia content to support stories.
  • Collaborate in brainstorming sessions.
