About The Position

The SVP of Policy Communications position is located in Washington, D.C. and is part of the Policy Communications team. The Policy Communications team sits within the Strategic and Financial Communications team in Citi’s Global Communications function. The role will provide communications support for Citi’s Government Affairs and Regulatory Strategy and Policy functions. The Global Communications team is dedicated to enhancing and protecting Citi's reputation. The team manages a broad spectrum of responsibilities, from executive communications and public engagements to corporate reputation programs and business-specific support. We work closely with senior leadership and internal partners worldwide. Within this framework, the Policy Communications team executes high-impact communications strategies that support public policy outcomes and enhance Citi’s reputation as a bank that enables growth and economic progress. Across all our efforts, the Policy Communications team embodies a high-energy, collaborative, and results-oriented culture. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum 8-10+ years of experience in communications, with policy or advocacy communications experience required (either in government, a trade association, a public affairs/relations firm, or in policy communications at another corporation or company).
  • Ability to thrive under pressure and tight deadlines.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Strong media relationships with DC-based reporters covering policy.
  • Experience coordinating closely to advance advocacy objectives with coalitions of peers and external partners, including trade associations and consultants.
  • Public policy and political knowledge.
  • Strong understanding of how government actions impact business decisions, with significant knowledge of the intersection of U.S. and global political trends and financial services policy.
  • Demonstrate ability to manage media relationships and handle inquiries effectively.
  • Be able to analyze large amounts of complex policy and regulatory information and demonstrate a proven capacity to design and implement a communications and media relations strategy.
  • Demonstrate an ability to build and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Able to communicate effectively and comfortably, with credibility, honesty and transparency, to a wide range of audiences including Citi senior executives, the media, and communication staffs of high-level government officials, peer companies and trade associations.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage a set of deadlines and deliverables with limited supervision.
  • Take ownership of issues in a constantly changing corporate environment.
  • A self-starter who can think strategically as well as tactically to help address problems or advance business objectives, with the ability to improvise and adapt while being comfortable with ambiguity.
  • Proven experience in managing executive level relationships and developing thought leadership/brand strategies.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with financial services policy and regulatory issues, but experience in another highly regulated industry considered.
  • Broad experience gathered from several areas of expertise and functions such as media relations, crisis and issue management, corporate reputation/responsibility, event activation, and strategic communications advice.
  • Willingness and adaptability in leveraging AI tools.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a trusted communications partner to Government Affairs and Regulatory Strategy and Policy.
  • Identify, analyze, prioritize and regularly communicate issues and implications.
  • Advise leaders on how to manage media relations related to public policy and advance corporate reputation.
  • Build internal consensus on messaging and public positioning related to policy changes.
  • Ensure timely development and deployment of public policy messaging and communications materials.
  • Assist in the development and tactical execution of strategic communications and stakeholder engagement plans to address and advance prioritized public policy issues impacting the bank’s business.
  • Create and execute thought leadership and media engagement plans that build and strengthen relationships between Citi’s senior leaders and key audiences.
  • Develop messaging and materials that clearly explain complex policy and regulatory topics to the public.
  • Manage daily incoming inquiries from the media on policy and regulatory issues.
  • Build and strengthen productive relationships with journalists as well as the communications and media leads for Citi’s financial trade associations and partners in Washington.
  • Be a value-added resource to Citi’s lines of business communications teams and function communications teams, providing insight and guidance on political and policy developments through the identification, analysis, prioritization, and regular communication of cross-team policy issues and implications.
