About The Position

Sagamok Anishnawbek is seeking a highly motivated and analytical Policy Analyst to support the development, implementation, and evaluation of organizational policies and governance frameworks. The Policy Analyst plays an important role in supporting strategic decision-making by conducting research, analyzing legislation and policy impacts, and developing recommendations that align with organizational priorities and Anishinaabe cultural values. Working closely with leadership, departments, community members, and external partners, the successful candidate will help ensure policies are effective, culturally informed, and supportive of strong governance, accountability, and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Degree in Public Policy, Public Administration, Political Science, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical, research, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to evaluate policies, identify issues, and propose practical solutions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including report and briefing note preparation.
  • Excellent organizational and project management abilities with the capacity to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with leadership, staff, community members, and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of First Nations governance, laws, policies, and community priorities.
  • Understanding of Indigenous worldviews and Anishinaabe cultural values.
  • Valid driver’s license and vehicle for on-the-job use.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Sign and maintain an annual oath of confidentiality.
  • Secure and maintain certification in Privacy and Confidentiality.
  • Must provide a criminal record check prior to commencing employment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and analysis to support the development of organizational policies, procedures, and governance frameworks.
  • Review and evaluate existing policies and recommend updates or revisions to improve effectiveness and alignment with organizational priorities.
  • Draft policies, procedures, guidelines, and governance documents as directed by leadership.
  • Support the continuous improvement of organizational policy systems and practices.
  • Conduct environmental scans, literature reviews, and jurisdictional comparisons to support policy initiatives.
  • Analyze legislation, regulations, and government policies that may impact the organization and community.
  • Prepare evidence-based recommendations and policy options for leadership and decision-makers.
  • Assess policy impacts and identify emerging trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Support leadership with strategic initiatives, governance priorities, and organizational planning activities.
  • Prepare briefing notes, discussion papers, reports, and presentations for leadership, committees, and working groups.
  • Assist with evaluating the effectiveness and impact of organizational programs and policies.
  • Support organizational planning processes and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Consult with departments, leadership, community members, and external stakeholders to gather input and feedback on policy initiatives.
  • Facilitate discussions, consultations, and working groups related to policy development and governance matters.
  • Ensure policies reflect community priorities, Indigenous perspectives, Anishinaabe cultural values, and organizational goals and operational realities.
  • Support departments in implementing approved policies and procedures.
  • Monitor policy effectiveness and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Provide guidance and clarification regarding policy interpretation and application as directed.
  • Assist with ensuring organizational compliance with applicable legislation and governance standards.
  • Maintain organized records of policy documents, research materials, and policy updates.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and communication materials related to policy recommendations and findings.
  • Ensure policy documents are current, accessible, and properly maintained.
