About The Position

The Police Reports Representative I (PRR I) is an entry-level role that handles non-emergency routine calls from citizens by writing qualifying police reports over the phone, reducing the workload, response time, and pending calls for patrol operations. The representative reviews and assigns offense codes to offense and incident reports to support accurate data entry and compliance with city, state, and national guidelines. At the Service Desk, the PRR I responds to requests from Dallas Fire, Animal Control, and EBS that do not require an officer. The role also uses AI tools to develop and refine reports. The position involves receiving calls and interviewing complainants, entering information into law enforcement systems, routing information to appropriate departments, preparing reports and forms, handling alarm-system calls, reviewing online reports, and sorting and distributing reports to the police sections responsible for investigation. The representative must communicate effectively with law enforcement personnel, citizens, and other stakeholders, including assisting and reassuring callers in crisis. Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED and two years of experience in customer service in person or over the phone, writing reports, and maintaining data. The employee must obtain NCIC/TCIC/CJIS certification during the probationary period and renew it annually, obtain a Basic Telecommunicator License from TCOLE within one year of employment, and obtain Expediter or Service Desk personnel Certification during the probationary period. The role requires U.S. citizenship, a telephone or cellular phone, successful completion of an intensive background investigation and drug test, and exam clearance. The employee must meet the listed criminal-history restrictions and be available for varying shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime. The starting salary range is $21.50–$22.33; the amount offered depends on qualifications.
