About The Position

Southeastern Louisiana University's Police Department is seeking applicants for the position of Police Officer 1/2. This is a training series position where individuals can be hired as either a Police Officer 1 (no experience required) or a Police Officer 2 (one year of law enforcement experience) based on their qualifications. The current salary for Police Officer 1 is $18.58/hr SER, and for Police Officer 2 is $19.88/hr SER. Applicants must list all education and work experience on their application, indicating full-time or part-time status and the percentage of time spent on each duty. This information is crucial for determining if the minimum qualifications are met. Resumes will not be accepted in place of completed application sections. Applicants must possess a valid driver's license and be able to be certified through the Southeastern Defensive Driving Course. A current Civil Service test score for the 2100-PSE-Protective Services Exam for Law Enforcement is required unless exempted. Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.
  • One year of law enforcement experience (or equivalent substitution).
  • Current Civil Service test score for 2100-PSE-Protective Services Exam for Law Enforcement (unless exempted).
  • Not have been convicted of a felony or be under indictment on a felony charge without relief from disabilities.
  • Law enforcement experience must be from a role with the power of arrest (e.g., commissioned police officer, military police). Security/guard duty does not qualify.
  • Any college hours or degree must be from a regionally accredited institution.

  • Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.
