About The Position

The City of Arvada is hiring a Police Digital Records Technician to support their team by managing, reviewing, redacting, and releasing police records and digital evidence. This role is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, tech-savvy, organized, and committed to public service. The starting salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity. The pay range is $27.86-$38.09 Hourly.

Must successfully complete all annual and as-needed in-service training and certification requirements.
High School/GED
Three (3) years of progressively responsible office experience.
One (1) or more years of experience in documentation and records keeping, inventory systems, public contact, and customer relations.
Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which would provide the required knowledge and skills, may be considered.
Must be at least 21 years of age due to the frequent handling and viewing of sensitive and potentially disturbing material and information.
Position is subject to an extensive background check, which may include fingerprinting, a polygraph examination, verification of employment and education, a review of criminal and driving records, reference checks, and other relevant factors as required.
Must obtain and maintain a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Certification.
Must be able to obtain and maintain NCIC/CCIC login credentials.

Nice To Haves

Experience with digital media redaction.
Experience in a law enforcement setting.
A valid Colorado driver’s license and acceptable driving record is preferred.

Responsibilities

Searches, reviews, catalogues, analyzes, redacts, reproduces, and disseminates digital media, as well as other police records and documents.
Completes necessary redaction in accordance with department policy and applicable local, state, or federal laws.
Processes open records requests for distribution of digital records and evidence media in accordance with Department policies and procedures, the Colorado Criminal Justice Records Act (CCJRA), and the Colorado Municipal Records Retention rules and regulations; reviewing and ensuring compliance and quality control of redaction as necessary prior to release.
Reviews sensitive graphic material.
Provides quality assurance for the documentation, release, and redaction of body-worn camera video and records.
Publishes records and digital media for the District Attorney's office as case discovery.
Assists prosecutors and attorneys with the review and examination of digital records and evidence media, in accordance with department policies and procedures.
Assists in developing and implementing records retention guidelines and prepare, scan, and purge documents and files in compliance with policies, procedures, regulations, and public records laws.
Acts as a resource and subject matter expert for Records employees as needed regarding CCJRA laws, policies, requirements, and software tools used to perform searches, analysis, and keep abreast of current technical advancements and industry changes and make recommendations for digital records request platforms.
Accepts payment for criminal justice records; maintains daily cash balances and prepares cash and receipts for deposit.
Writes, transcribes, and queries various reports, lists, memos, and spreadsheets.
Maintains security, confidentiality, and integrity of sensitive information.
Maintains current knowledge and awareness technical advancements and industry changes and makes recommendations for digital records request platforms.
Provides training to new and existing personnel on issues related to digital media upload, storage, release, and retention.
Provides exceptional and timely customer support with the emphasis on excellent oral and written communications.
Compiles data for Management staff as requested.
Works with users, Arvada IT, and software vendors to promptly resolve issues related to video/audio upload, download, redaction, software, tools, and practices, and makes necessary improvements for efficient and accurate processes.
Updates, maintains, archives, or purges data, files, reports, and lists, according to department policy and state and municipal retention schedules.
Travels to and attends team and organizational meetings, training, events and activities and appropriately and professionally represents the department.
Learns general procedures, policies, systems, and functions to assist with daily tasks of the assigned unit.
Communicates with attorneys, officers, and investigators in the process of releasing/granting system access to digital evidence for court review.
Renders credible testimony in judicial and administrative proceedings.
Receives information in person, over the telephone, and electronically.
Follows moderately complex verbal and written instructions.
Maintains and inspects all equipment.
Performs a wide variety of duties at one time with accuracy and under the pressure of time sensitive deadlines.
Makes recommendations to supervisor for budget allocations pertaining to areas of responsibility.
Represents department on various city committees.
Performs other duties as assigned.
