This position serves as a Shift Supervisor for the UFPD Communications Center, overseeing all sworn and non-sworn employees. The role involves supervising, training, advising, and counseling staff, regulating activities, and providing instruction on duties and responsibilities. The supervisor conducts briefings, ensures calls for service are handled efficiently, and acts as a Communications Training Officer. Responsibilities include reviewing and documenting subordinate performance, managing work schedules, and addressing employee issues such as conflicts and grievances. The role also involves taking or recommending corrective and disciplinary actions and participating in emergency notification activations. Additionally, the position operates the UFPD Communications Center, providing radio and telephone communication support, maintaining links with various agencies, and performing duties related to the FCIC/NCIC teletype system. This includes modifying records, evaluating and processing public calls for assistance, inputting and transmitting information via computer-assisted dispatch (CAD), and referring callers to appropriate agencies. The role requires using CAD to update unit status, transmit requests, and retrieve data. It also involves utilizing criminal justice and public safety computer systems for various checks, monitoring alarm systems (Lenel, SIS, RMS, UFTR), and obtaining information via computer, radio, and telephone. The position supports special events, requiring the ability to sit or stand for extended periods in various conditions. The supervisor assesses and addresses system failures, makes notifications, participates in interviewing applicants, and completes emergency notification messages for critical situations. Training attendance and conducting are also part of the role, along with preparing detailed records and reports and providing testimony in judicial proceedings.
