About The Position

Under general supervision, the Police Clerk responds to public enquiries and, when necessary, refers information and/or individuals to the appropriate official. This position also provides administrative and operational support to RCMP and Bylaw members.

  • Ability to deal courteously and effectively with a diverse range of people, using judgement, tact, and sound decision-making skills, sometimes in conflict or difficult situations.
  • High level of organizational skills, flexibility, and professionalism, with a strong knowledge of policing and RCMP policies and procedures.
  • Proficient in various Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, Excel).
  • Strong multitasking skills with the ability to set priorities and manage a high volume of tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong communication skills and actively seeks to understand information by listening and asking for clarification when needed.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative, collaborative, and productive work relationships.
  • Certificate in Business Administration, Office Administration, Legal Administration, Criminal Law, Policing, Paralegal or related field is required.
  • Two (2) years of experience in a fast paced, responsible, clerical support position is required.
  • Ability to acquire and maintain an RCMP enhanced reliability security clearance is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous related experience working for the RCMP or other police agency, a legal background, and previous radio experience are assets.
  • A valid Class Five (5) Operator’s Licence is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Record data and complete queries on multiple systems.
  • Respond promptly to enquires and provide information or assistance.
  • Collect information to initiate investigations and process paperwork.
  • Accept and process Criminal Record Check applications upon receipt.
  • Perform non-criminal digital fingerprinting.
  • Answer multi-line telephone, efficiently providing appropriate information, as per applicable RCMP and municipal policies.
  • Transcribe audio and or videotaped statements.
  • Prepare various court, release, and other related documents.
  • Record and prepare minutes of meetings.
  • Maintain radio communication with RCMP/Bylaw members as required.
  • Prepare, receive, and distribute mail and supplies.
  • Provide customer services and cash handling at the front counter.
  • Assist with orientation and training of detachment staff as required.
  • Prepare and maintain training manuals and job processes binders.
  • Provide assistance to other units as required.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
