About The Position

The Point of Care Clinical Coordinator for POC/Point of Care is responsible for coordinating and planning the implementation of quality management standards of practice for ancillary laboratory testing and monitoring all regulatory compliance. The incumbent is also responsible for training personnel, monitoring and reviewing QC and maintenance records, result reporting and proficiency testing, other duties include evaluating new instrumentation and methodology for accuracy and reproducibility. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Medical Technology
  • Laboratory 3-5 years
  • Medical Technologist - Tennessee Department of Health - Medical Laboratory Board
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to effectively relate and communicate with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to work without close supervision and to exercise independent judgment in a professional area.
  • Must be knowledgeable of regulatory requirements impacting laboratory operations (CLIA, CAP, State of Tennessee).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computer systems related to point of care testing.
  • Demonstrable leadership potential.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and monitors all bedside-testing instruments used by Associates working outside the Laboratory at assigned facility.
  • Evaluates the performance of POC instrumentation for proper working order and reporting of reliable test results.
  • Maintains POC based quality monitoring and evaluation documentation to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, quality standards, compliance activities, and policies and procedures.
  • Monitors, troubleshoots and performs analysis of POC issues to ensure integrity of the data reported and to provide safe and effective patient care.
  • Coordinates and evaluates new POC instrumentation, test procedures, and methodology.
  • Writes and reviews policies and procedures in accordance with regulatory guidelines and laboratory standards.
  • Ensures standard procedures are clearly communicated to personnel performing testing.
  • Develops and maintains a training program for end users to ensure competency and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Provides training to end users in the proper utilization of POC instruments according to manufacturer and regulatory agency recommendations.
  • Assists nursing units with maintaining and documenting competencies of personnel performing POC testing.
  • Acts as a liaison between the laboratory and other departments, the State Medical Laboratory Board, vendors, and equipment sales representatives.
  • Performs other job functions as assigned or requested.
