About The Position

The Point of Care Coordinator oversees point-of-care testing activities across more than 10 freestanding emergency department laboratories and travels between locations. The role ensures that quality standards and regulatory requirements established by CAP, CLIA, JCAHO, and NCCLS are met. The coordinator develops and directs point-of-care testing, monitors quality control and assurance, and evaluates testing methods, instrumentation, and technology to support rapid clinical diagnosis.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in biological science.
One of the following certifications is required: MT(ASCP), MLS(ASCP), MT(AMT), MT(AAB), CLS(NCA), MT(HEW), CLT(NCA), MLT(ASCP), or MLT(AMT). Certification is waived for candidates with 10 years of laboratory experience.

Nice To Haves

Five years of clinical laboratory experience is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Reconcile instrument databases with patient records.
Review records, identify problems, make corrections, and communicate errors to coworkers and nursing staff.
Monitor regulatory changes affecting hospital point-of-care testing and ensure compliance with accrediting-agency standards.
Manage projects to develop and direct point-of-care testing.
Understand, perform, and develop procedures; monitor quality control and quality assurance.
Anticipate needs and evaluate the current test menu, instrumentation, and technology; recommend changes to add or eliminate clinically relevant point-of-care tests.
