About The Position

The Plumbing & Service Technician performs drain and plumbing work of various kinds and educates potential clients by explaining available choices and options. Duties include clearing clogged sewer lines and drains, repairing broken underground piping, replacing damaged pipe or tile sections, maintaining sewer-cleaning equipment, estimating service costs, and keeping work areas safe in accordance with company policy.

Requirements

Knowledge of local plumbing codes and the ability to apply them practically on each job.
Ability to read and write English well enough to read and prepare invoices, time sheets, and proposals.
Ability to apply sound business judgment to decisions.
High school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

Remove roots, debris, and other refuse from clogged sewer lines and drains using a portable electric sewer-cleaning machine.
Repair breaks in underground piping, including positioning or disassembling sewer-trap equipment at sewer or drain outlets.
Remove drain covers using a wrench.
Install rotary knives on the machine’s flexible cable according to the diameter of the pipe being cleaned.
Examine residue for evidence of a broken sewer line and measure or estimate the distance to a suspected break.
Remove and replace broken tile sections or pipe, forming watertight joints with caulking compound and cement.
Replace dull knives and repair the sewer-cleaning machine using personal hand tools.
Estimate the cost of service for customers.
Educate potential clients about choices and service options.
Maintain a safe work area according to company policy.
