About The Position

The Plumbing Field Instructor is responsible for delivering classroom and hands-on plumbing instruction to employees participating in company training and workforce development programs. This role supports technical skill development, licensing preparation, safety training, and career advancement while ensuring training programs align with company standards, operational objectives, and applicable plumbing codes and regulations. This role provides hands-on instruction and training in electrical, plumbing, and/or HVAC systems.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of plumbing systems, installation practices, troubleshooting methods, and plumbing codes.
  • Ability to teach technical concepts effectively in classroom and hands-on environments.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and mentoring skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple training priorities and student development needs.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety standards, trade regulations, and licensing requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, instructional technology, and related business systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to employee development and training excellence.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with leadership, instructors, and field personnel.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment screenings such as background and motor vehicle record checks.
  • English speaking, reading, and writing preferred, and required where necessary to perform job duties.
  • Spanish speaking preferred.
  • Maintain professionalism and a positive, respectful demeanor with customers, coworkers, and business partners.
  • Hands-on knowledge and experience in electrical, plumbing, and/or HVAC systems and installations.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous plumbing installation, service, construction, or related field experience preferred.
  • Previous instructional, training, mentoring, or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Work performed in classroom, laboratory, shop, and training environments.
  • Use, audiovisual equipment, plumbing tools, and instructional materials.
  • Travel as required to support project and operational needs.
  • Ability to work overtime, modified schedules, or occasional weekends as business needs require.
  • Stand, walk, climb ladders and stairs, kneel, bend, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach, and lift throughout the workday.
  • Sit for extended periods while driving to and between job sites.
  • Work on active job sites, indoors and outdoors, including attics, crawlspaces, and confined or elevated spaces, with exposure to varying weather, construction noise, dust, and other job site conditions.
  • Wear safety gear such as Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Maintain dependable transportation and consistent, reliable attendance to meet customer service and operational needs.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make independent decisions within established company policies and procedures.
  • Communicate in person, by phone, and electronically, including on a tablet, smartphone, and other office technology.
  • Perform all work on-site and in person; this is not a remote or hybrid position.
  • Lift, carry, push, and pull at least 50 pounds.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without current or future need for employer sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver classroom, laboratory, and hands-on instruction for plumbing training programs and workforce development initiatives.
  • Teach plumbing fundamentals, installation methods, safety procedures, code requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Develop and maintain lesson plans, instructional materials, practical exercises, and training documentation.
  • Evaluate trainee performance through testing, demonstrations, hands-on assessments, and classroom participation.
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and technical support to trainees and developing field employees.
  • Maintain classroom, lab, and training equipment in safe, organized, and operational condition.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, plumbing codes, and training procedures during all instructional activities.
  • Coordinate with operations leadership and field personnel to align training objectives with workforce and operational needs.
  • Monitor attendance, training progress, certifications, and program completion records accurately and timely.
  • Support curriculum improvements, training initiatives, and continuous development of company education programs.
  • Promote professionalism, accountability, teamwork, and positive learning environments.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
