About The Position

Benjamin Franklin Plumbing of West Madison is seeking a Plumbing Apprentice for their Residential Service team. This role is for an apprentice who is three to five years into their program, capable of independently diagnosing and fixing residential plumbing issues, and communicating professionally with homeowners. The company offers the opportunity to run your own service calls and van under the general supervision of a licensed master plumber, with support available when needed. They are committed to helping apprentices complete their journeyman card by covering related instruction and exam fees.

Requirements

  • Active Wisconsin DSPS Plumbing Apprentice registration, or eligibility to register, with a current apprenticeship indenture under Wis. Stat. ch. 106 or a federal DOL program.
  • Approximately 4,000+ hours logged, indicating you are in year three or later of a five-year program.
  • Valid Wisconsin driver's license with an insurable driving record.
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs.
  • Ability to work in crawl spaces and attics.
  • Pass a background check and drug screen.
  • Residential service experience (not just new construction rough-in).
  • Ability to explain repairs to homeowners clearly and professionally.
  • Comfortable using a tablet for dispatch software, digital invoicing, and documenting photos.
  • Awareness of your own skill limitations and willingness to communicate them.

Nice To Haves

  • Hydro jetting and camera inspection experience.
  • Water treatment or tankless certifications.
  • Gas line experience.

Responsibilities

  • Run service calls independently out of your own van, performing the full scope of work allowed for a registered apprentice under general supervision.
  • Diagnose and repair residential plumbing issues including leaks, drains, water heaters, fixtures, sewer lines, gas lines, and sump/ejector pumps.
  • Install and replace water heaters (tank and tankless), fixtures, water treatment systems, and sections of piping.
  • Perform drain cleaning, de-scaling, hydro jetting, and camera inspections.
  • Present "good / better / best" options to homeowners using Straight Forward Pricing before starting work.
  • Test all work before leaving the job site to prevent callbacks.
  • Maintain a clean work area, wear floor savers, and leave the home cleaner than found.
  • Keep ServiceTitan records accurate and maintain the cleanliness of the van.
  • Log hours towards journeyman card and attend related instruction.
  • Call master or lead journeyman for assistance when a job is beyond your current ability.
