About The Position

This is a position at Marion Correctional Institution located in Marion, North Carolina (McDowell County). Marion Correctional Institution is a Close-custody prison housing male offenders. The facility is designed to house a maximum capacity of 793 offenders. Reporting directly to the Facility Maintenance Supervisor, the primary purpose of this position is to install, maintain, alter and repair plumbing systems and components at the journey level of the plumbing trade.

Requirements

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience in the repair, replacement or construction of piping systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Based on the nature of work performed, may require appropriate licensure by the governing board or commission.

Working knowledge of the methods of installation and repair of plumbing systems.

Responsibilities

Possessing working knowledge of the installation and repair of commercial plumbing, as well as safety precautions of the plumbing trade.
Using power tools associated with plumbing trade, cutting and threading pipe, utilizing motorized and mechanical tools, and being familiar with building, life, and safety codes.
Making material list(s) for projects and submitting to supervisor for review.
Making up lead joints and installing various types of plastic pipes, also knowledge in replacing stainless steel and porcelain plumbing fixtures.
Supervising semi-skilled male offenders.
Computer skills required to order parts and/or equipment pertaining to your assigned job.
Cross-training required to learn other maintenance jobs that are needed to maintain a safe and secure facility.
Must be willing to work in adverse weather conditions and being on call for emergencies is mandatory.
Will be required to perform plumbing duties at the minimum-security facility and close custody facility.
