About The Position

Ford Motor Company is seeking a Platform Software Engineer for its Enterprise Data Platform team. The role works closely with engineering, operations, and architecture teams to understand data ingestion processes, identify inefficiencies, and develop or enhance tools. The engineer uses Java or Python and cloud-platform expertise to build and manage applications at scale, including backend microservices, APIs, and frameworks and services that enable an enterprise data platform. The role requires familiarity with the software development lifecycle and hands-on experience with Git and CI/CD to design, code, test, and release production features. The position focuses on developing scalable data pipelines and microservices for real-time and batch processing on GCP, integrating data from multiple sources, and building cloud data solutions. It also involves full-stack integration, data governance and security, performance optimization, collaboration on engineering best practices, and automation to improve platform reliability and operational efficiency. The position is hybrid, with a requirement to work onsite four or more days per week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent.
  • At least 3 years of professional software engineering experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience with cloud technologies and services; GCP is preferred.
  • Experience with SonarQube, CI/CD, Tekton, Terraform, GCS, GCP, and Kubernetes.
  • Strong Java and Spring Boot development skills.

  • Lead ingestion and integration of data from various sources, ensuring it is standardized and optimized for analytics.
  • Use GCP services, including BigQuery, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, and Cloud Functions, to build and manage data platforms.
  • Implement and manage data governance, access controls, and security practices, including GCP row- and column-level security.
  • Monitor and improve the performance, scalability, and efficiency of data pipelines and storage solutions.
  • Collaborate with data architects, software engineers, and cross-functional teams to define best practices, design patterns, and frameworks for cloud data engineering.
  • Automate data-platform processes to improve reliability and operational efficiency and reduce manual intervention.
