About The Position

LMI is seeking a Platform Engineer to support IronSled, a Platform as a Service (PaaS) designed to accelerate application development and deployment in secure federal environments. The role is part of a cross-functional team responsible for designing, deploying, maintaining, and continuously improving the platform’s infrastructure, services, and capabilities. It is a hands-on engineering position focused on reliable, scalable, secure cloud-native infrastructure and the full lifecycle of platform services, from design and implementation through deployment, monitoring, maintenance, and optimization. The Platform Engineer will collaborate with software developers and platform engineers to improve delivery pipelines, automate infrastructure operations, troubleshoot technical challenges, and strengthen platform reliability, applying DevSecOps principles and continuous improvement. IronSled is a small, high-visibility team within LMI’s Chief Technology Office that builds and operates a secure application-hosting platform for federal agencies. The team works closely with the Product Manager, Engineering Lead, platform engineers, application developers, and tenant teams. The position is remote and requires U.S. citizenship and eligibility to obtain a security clearance.

Requirements

  • 7–10 years of experience in DevSecOps engineering, platform engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience programming in Python, including debugging, optimizing code, and developing automation for infrastructure and operational tasks.
  • Strong understanding of Unix/Linux operating systems and experience administering and troubleshooting Linux-based environments.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, building, and maintaining automated CI/CD pipelines, including GitLab CI/CD.
  • Experience integrating automated security scans of source code and build artifacts into deployment pipelines, including implementing security-based deployment controls.
  • Strong understanding of containerization technologies and experience deploying and managing containerized web applications.
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and container orchestration platforms such as Amazon EKS, AKS, GKE, OpenShift, or similar technologies.
  • Experience managing application release artifacts, version control, deployment rollouts, upgrades, and rollback procedures.
  • Proficiency with Bash scripting and command-line tools for system administration, troubleshooting, and automation.
  • Ability to collaborate with software development and infrastructure teams and provide technical guidance on application development, deployment, and platform integration.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with a systematic approach to investigating and resolving complex technical problems.
  • Effective communication skills, strong technical ownership, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced engineering environment.
  • U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain a security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the full lifecycle of platform services, including design, development, deployment, operations, maintenance, and continuous improvement using agile methodologies.
  • Support the design and launch of new services through architecture discussions, infrastructure development, capacity planning, technical reviews, and deployment readiness assessments.
  • Design, build, maintain, and optimize automated CI/CD pipelines for consistent, reliable, and secure application delivery.
  • Integrate security scanning, automated testing, and compliance checks into build and deployment workflows using DevSecOps principles.
  • Develop and maintain Python and Bash scripts to automate infrastructure operations and improve engineering efficiency.
  • Monitor and maintain production services, evaluating availability, latency, performance, and overall system health.
  • Manage containerized applications and Kubernetes environments, including deployment configurations, resource management, troubleshooting, and operational improvements.
  • Implement and improve release management processes, including artifact versioning, deployment strategies, upgrades, and rollback capabilities.
  • Collaborate with software development and infrastructure teams to resolve technical challenges, improve deployment practices, and strengthen application performance and reliability.
  • Identify opportunities to improve platform scalability, reliability, and deployment velocity through automation and engineering enhancements.
  • Participate in incident response, root cause analysis, and retrospectives to identify improvements and prevent recurring issues.
