About The Position

The Platform Engineer partners with product team members and other engineers supporting the Market Solutions and Large Group Sell and Renew product teams. These teams focus on improving the product development and quoting lifecycle and making business with Wellmark seamless, efficient, and accurate. The role provides technical leadership across the technology ecosystem supporting product and benefit configuration, quoting, document generation, and distribution of shared product and benefit information to downstream systems. It has system-level technical leadership and accountability for this highly integrated ecosystem. The engineer works closely with Solution Architects, Product Managers, business stakeholders, Security, Infrastructure, shared services, and other engineering teams during solution shaping and technical planning. Responsibilities include translating logical architecture into implementable designs, defining integration strategies and physical design patterns, assessing infrastructure and operational impacts, and ensuring dependencies and risks are understood before PI execution. The role helps ensure capabilities work together effectively, meet business needs, and align with Wellmark technology and architecture standards.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree or direct and applicable work experience.
At least 7 years of experience, including development, innovative solutions, infrastructure, architecture design, and operations.
At least 4 years of experience in IT infrastructure, architecture design, and operations.
Informal leadership, coaching, mentoring, architecture design, stakeholder consulting, problem-solving, and strong communication skills.

Experience collaborating across an enterprise to build and nurture successful partnerships and relationships.
Demonstrated systems engineering experience designing, integrating, and supporting complex, integrated enterprise technology solutions.
Proficiency developing and supporting modern web applications and services using Angular, Node.js, JavaScript/TypeScript, or comparable frameworks and runtime technologies.
Experience designing and supporting integrated solutions using AWS or a comparable cloud platform, including APIs, event-driven architectures, messaging, and shared data services.
Experience designing and supporting solutions using relational and NoSQL databases, including Amazon Aurora/SQL and MongoDB.
Experience working in Agile product delivery or software engineering environments.
Previous formal or informal leadership experience.

Responsibilities

Lead technical designs for highly integrated, complex application platforms, optimizing security, information leverage and reuse, integration, performance, and availability while ensuring alignment with architecture standards.
Consult with Architects and project teams to create and document design deliverables for application platforms and collaborate on technology solutions.
May oversee and lead the planning, development, and estimation of technical solutions, collaborating with other technical teams.
Collaborate with Architects, business systems analysts, and stakeholders on process improvements.
Consult with business stakeholders on technical planning to ensure architectures align with business expectations.
Oversee, review, and provide technical guidance on supported solutions, including vendor evaluations and integrations.
Support architecture governance standards and provide guidance on IT policies, security, and infrastructure.
Provide training and mentorship regarding technical design and solution implementation.
Build strong business relationships to ensure technical designs align with business needs.
Develop and apply industry best practices and recommend emerging technologies.
Perform other duties as assigned.
