Platform Engineer

P-1 AI•United States,
•$200,000 - $275,000•Remote

About The Position

P-1 AI is building Archie, an AI engineer agent for the physical world, and aims to build engineering ASI. The Platform Engineer will own the infrastructure that enables Archie to operate reliably inside customer environments and evolve its bring-your-own-cloud (BYOC) deployment architecture. The role covers distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and security, with significant ownership of how Archie is deployed and scaled. The Platform Engineer will develop and operate Kubernetes-based infrastructure across multiple clouds and customer environments; create repeatable deployment tooling; implement secure update and upgrade mechanisms for restricted networks; and establish visibility into distributed systems operating in environments P-1 does not fully control. The role involves close collaboration with product, research, and forward-deployed engineers, as well as debugging and improving production deployments.

Requirements

  • Experience building and operating Kubernetes-based systems in production.
  • Experience designing infrastructure using IaC tools such as Terraform, Pulumi, or similar.
  • Experience implementing CI/CD or GitOps workflows that deploy systems across environments.
  • Comfort working across cloud providers such as AWS, GCP, and Azure, with an understanding of their core primitives.
  • Experience with systems requiring strong security and networking considerations, such as VPCs, identity, and encryption.
  • Ability to own problems end-to-end and work in ambiguous 0-to-1 environments.
  • Continually evolve the use of AI for personal technical work.

Responsibilities

  • Own and evolve Archie’s BYOC deployment model across customer environments, including system distribution, installation, updates, and interaction with P-1’s central systems.
  • Build and own Kubernetes-based infrastructure that operates reliably across multiple clouds and customer setups.
  • Create repeatable deployment tooling using Helm, GitOps, or similar approaches.
  • Implement secure and reliable update and upgrade mechanisms that work in restricted or locked-down network environments.
  • Work with product, research, and forward-deployed engineers to translate requirements into platform capabilities.
  • Debug and improve production deployments, addressing performance, reliability, and operability bottlenecks.
  • Establish observability, monitoring, and debugging patterns for distributed systems in environments P-1 does not fully control.
