About The Position

LMI is seeking a Platform Engineer to support IronSled, a Platform as a Service (PaaS) designed to host applications in secure federal environments. The role is part of a small, cross-functional engineering team responsible for supporting tenants, maintaining platform reliability, and improving the platform's capabilities and user experience. The primary focus is helping teams build, deploy, and operate applications on IronSled by owning technical issues and service requests, troubleshooting across the platform, and working with tenants to identify and implement solutions. This is a hands-on engineering position spanning Kubernetes environments, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, identity services, networking, and platform integrations, with additional contributions to platform engineering initiatives, automation, infrastructure improvements, and platform development. IronSled is part of LMI’s Chief Technology Office. The team builds and operates a secure application-hosting platform for federal agencies and works collaboratively with the Product Manager, Engineering Lead, platform engineers, application developers, and tenant teams. The position offers opportunities to improve support processes, documentation, automation, and technical capabilities. Reliability, security, communication, and attention to detail are essential because users depend on IronSled to operate critical applications. The role requires U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance. The position is listed as remote. The target salary range is $92,075.40–$158,138.39; compensation depends on factors including location, internal equity, business considerations, client contract requirements, and candidate qualifications.

Requirements

  • 2–5+ years of experience in platform engineering, cloud engineering, DevOps, site reliability engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Hands-on experience with Linux, containers, Kubernetes, and cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS.
  • Experience supporting and troubleshooting applications in containerized or cloud-native environments.
  • Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, Git-based development workflows, and infrastructure automation tools such as Terraform, Helm, or similar technologies.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills, including analyzing logs, investigating infrastructure and application issues, and identifying root causes across multiple systems.
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals, including DNS, load balancing, ingress, connectivity, and common application networking issues.
  • Experience working directly with developers or technical users to investigate issues and implement solutions.
  • Ability to independently manage technical issues, prioritize competing requests, and drive problems through resolution.
  • Strong communication skills, including explaining technical issues, coordinating across teams, and providing clear stakeholder updates.
  • Collaborative mindset, strong sense of ownership, and interest in improving platform reliability, automation, and the developer experience.
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a primary technical resource for IronSled tenants, owning platform-related issues and service requests from initial investigation through resolution.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical problems involving Kubernetes, application deployments, CI/CD pipelines, identity and access management, networking, AWS infrastructure, and platform integrations.
  • Work directly with tenant development teams to diagnose issues, identify root causes, and implement sustainable solutions.
  • Collaborate with platform engineers on issues requiring broader infrastructure changes or specialized expertise while maintaining ownership of tenant communication and resolution.
  • Support tenant onboarding, environment provisioning, application deployments, access management, and ongoing platform operations.
  • Contribute to the design, maintenance, and improvement of platform infrastructure, services, and engineering workflows.
  • Identify recurring technical issues and develop automation, tooling, or platform improvements that reduce manual intervention and improve tenant self-service.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, troubleshooting guides, and operational procedures.
  • Participate in platform monitoring, incident response, maintenance, and reliability improvements.
  • Work with the engineering team to identify and prioritize technical debt, operational improvements, and enhancements to the tenant experience.
