About The Position

Brigham Young University (BYU) is seeking a Professorial Faculty member for the Plant & Wildlife Sciences department, specializing in Wildlife and Wildlands Conservation (WWC). This position involves teaching, leading a research program, and actively participating in departmental and university governance. The successful candidate will mentor graduate and undergraduate students, publish in peer-reviewed journals, and contribute to the intellectual and community life of the university. This role requires relocation to Utah and adherence to BYU's Honor Code and Mission Alignment Statement.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in a field relevant to wildlife and wildlands conservation, completed by the start date.
  • Teaching experience relevant to the position and the applicant’s career status.
  • Research, mentoring, and leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a research program that prioritizes mentoring graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Record of publishing in quality, peer-reviewed scientific journals relative to career status.
  • Vision for obtaining research funding and leading a student-focused research program.
  • Ability to relocate and/or reside in Utah for the duration of employment.
  • Willingness to support and contribute to the academic and religious missions of the university within the context of the principles and doctrine of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
  • Abide by the university’s Honor Code and Dress & Grooming Standards.

Responsibilities

  • Teach 3-4 regular classroom or laboratory courses per year in the WWC program, plus mentoring courses, matching program needs with candidate interest and experience.
  • Lead an externally funded research program that prioritizes mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Achieve annual quality peer-reviewed publications and presentations at professional or stakeholder meetings by the faculty and students.
  • Participate actively in departmental, college, and university governance.
  • Engage in the intellectual and community life of the university.
