About The Position

The Plant Mechanic Apprentice supports Water and/or Wastewater Plant operations by performing preventive and reactive maintenance and repairs to systems and equipment at assigned plants. Work includes troubleshooting, repairing, or replacing equipment such as pumps, motors, and valves. The role also involves maintenance of emergency generators, bypass pumps, and vehicles, as well as operational and safety-related tasks. This is an entry-level position; relevant prior work experience is preferred but not required.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED issued by an approved GED Administrator.
• Valid State of Florida Class E Driver's License, which must be maintained.
• Obtain and maintain a State of Florida Class A (CDL) Driver's License with hazmat endorsement within the first six months of employment.
• Ability to perform the physical demands of the job, including frequently lifting or moving up to 50 pounds and occasionally lifting or moving up to 75 pounds.
• Any combination of education and experience demonstrating the ability to perform successfully in the position will be considered.

Nice To Haves

• Previous relevant work experience is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Operate a crane truck and various hand and power tools.
• Flush check valves; check voltage and amperage; megger and ohm motors; inspect components, wiring, and connections; and check floats and transducers.
• Use schematic diagrams to assist with troubleshooting and repairs.
• Assist with preventive and corrective maintenance, including replacing mechanical parts, valves, piping, and pumps.
• Maintain emergency generators and bypass pumps, including installing hoses and power cords.
• Assist on vacuum trucks; check emails and SCADA readings; create work orders; and attend monthly safety meetings.
• Inspect trucks, including lights, gauges, tires, tools, oil, and belts, and inspect cranes.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
