About The Position

The Plant General Relief position is a flexible, cross-trained role that provides coverage across Building Custodian, PPE Room, and Knife Room operations based on staffing needs, including vacations, call-ins, vacancies, and other operational needs. When coverage is not needed in the PPE Room or Knife Room, the employee defaults to Building Custodian duties. The employee must be willing and able to move between assignments and work different schedules or hours based on the position being covered. Pay follows the applicable rate or grade for the work performed. Employees are expected to become trained and qualified in all three areas and maintain the knowledge and skills needed to provide effective coverage with minimal disruption to plant operations. As Building Custodian, the employee cleans and maintains common areas and other assigned spaces, replenishes supplies, performs routine and scheduled cleaning and sanitation, responds to custodial needs, and operates cleaning tools and equipment. PPE Room coverage involves issuing and tracking PPE and supplies, maintaining inventory records, receiving and preparing items, organizing the room, and completing required documentation. Knife Room coverage includes receiving, cleaning, inspecting, assembling, sharpening, maintaining, and organizing knives and equipment; preparing department-specific carts; keeping records; and cleaning the room and equipment. The employee follows applicable USDA requirements and company HACCP, SSOP, SOP, GMP, and SQF programs, wears required PPE, and follows safety procedures including Lockout/Tagout. The position works throughout a pork production facility and may involve wet or humid conditions, hot and cold environments (including temperatures around 41°F), hot water, sanitation processes, moving equipment, chemicals, airborne particles, raw meat and pork-harvest areas, loud production environments, and occasional outdoor weather conditions.
