About The Position

The Plant General Relief position provides flexible, cross-trained coverage for the Building Custodian, PPE Room, and Knife Room based on staffing needs, including vacations, call-ins, vacancies, and other operational requirements. When coverage is not needed in the PPE Room or Knife Room, the employee defaults to Building Custodian duties. The employee is expected to become fully trained and qualified in all three areas and maintain the skills needed to provide effective coverage with minimal disruption to plant operations. Work assignments, schedules, and hours may vary according to the position being covered; hours are paid at the applicable rate or grade for the work performed. Building Custodian duties include cleaning and maintaining facility common areas and assigned spaces; transporting and replenishing supplies; performing routine and scheduled cleaning and sanitation; operating cleaning tools and equipment; and responding to spills and other custodial needs. PPE Room relief duties include issuing and recording PPE, maintaining inventory and stock records, receiving and preparing supplies, transporting materials, maintaining an organized room, providing customer service, and completing required documentation and computer entries. Knife Room relief duties include receiving, cleaning, inspecting, preparing, and organizing knives and related equipment; preparing knife carts; sharpening and maintaining approved blades; servicing authorized equipment; operating knife washers; maintaining counts and accountability records; and cleaning the Knife Room and equipment. The employee must follow applicable USDA requirements and company HACCP, SSOP, SOP, GMP, and SQF programs, use required PPE, follow Lockout/Tagout and other safety procedures, and promptly report hazards or food-safety concerns. Work takes place throughout a pork production facility and involves exposure to production and sanitation conditions and associated hazards. The employee must be able to perform the duties of all three assignments safely and complete required training before independently providing relief coverage.
