About The Position

Burke County is hiring five part-time, hourly After-Hours Placement Support Specialists to care for youth experiencing foster care while the agency seeks a placement for them. Specialists provide for the youth’s safety and well-being by staying within sight and sound, engaging them in activities, and providing daily structure and care. In partnership with the social worker, they learn about each youth and report the youth’s strengths and needs. The role requires keeping the agency’s values in mind while caring for a vulnerable population. Work is available across the 24-hour day, and applicants should indicate their availability; all schedules will be considered.

Requirements

• Possess and maintain a valid driver's license with a safe driving record.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited school of social work and three years of social work experience; or a bachelor's degree in a human services field and four years of social work experience; or a bachelor's degree in a non-human services field and five years of social work experience; or experience working with children.
• CPR and First Aid.
• Experience working with children.

Responsibilities

• Provide guidance regarding youth behaviors and activities to support their health, safety, and well-being while remaining within sight and sound of the youth.
• Seek help and ask questions when unsure while providing care.
• Transport youth to and from school when the schedule allows.
• Redirect youth without engaging in power struggles.
• Prepare and cook meals with or for youth.
• Provide a structured schedule, including morning routines, daily hygiene, and schoolwork.
• Administer medication to youth.
• Engage youth in activities and report their strengths and needs to the social worker.
