The Piping Engineering & Analysis discipline evaluates piping systems in accordance with the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, ASME B31.1, ASME B31.7, and other applicable codes. Its specialty work includes vibration monitoring and analysis related to plant modifications and operating events, vibration prevention and mitigation solutions, hydraulic transient evaluations, thermal stratification evaluations, operability evaluations, and piping qualification for hydrodynamic loads. The discipline also conducts pipe rupture evaluations, assesses pipe wall thinning due to flow-accelerated corrosion (FAC) or microbiologically induced corrosion (MIC), and evaluates pipe flaws. In this entry-level role, the engineer develops practical engineering skills by collecting, processing, and evaluating data and performing limited-scope calculations and analyses under close supervision. The position supports engineering design projects by gathering information, preparing simple calculations and designs, and helping prepare specifications, bid tabulations, and reports or studies. The engineer communicates technical information clearly, applies accepted standards and processes, completes work within allocated time frames, and develops professional capabilities through assigned projects. Sargent & Lundy's Nuclear Power Group works on nuclear engineering, design, and licensing projects, including small modular reactors, advanced reactor technology, reactor restart projects, existing plant life extensions and digital modernization, coal-to-nuclear conversion initiatives, and international nuclear new-build projects. The company describes its work as supporting clean, carbon-free energy and sustainability.
