This role oversees and coordinates the work of employees performing one or more drafting and design tasks; suggests ways to enhance production processes, equipment performance, and product quality; suggests changes to processes to enhance working conditions, process flow, and equipment use to increase departmental efficiency; estimates staff-hour requirements for projects to be completed on time; studies production schedules and establishes or modifies work procedures to meet schedules, utilizing knowledge of CAD machines and software capacities. As a Design Coordinator, a typical day may include conferring with Project Managers to coordinate departmental activities with corporate needs, initiating or suggesting plans to motivate staff to achieve work goals, recommending or initiating personnel actions (e.g., promotions, transfers, discharges, and disciplinary measures), interviewing potential new hires and training new workers, maintaining time and production records, and estimating revenue and cost of current and future projects.
