About The Position

General Dynamics NASSCO, a member of the General Dynamics Marine Systems business unit, is seeking FIVE Pipewelders (J1-J4) for the night shift (3pm - 11pm) in their Pipeshop located in Norfolk, Virginia. NASSCO is involved in ship construction, repair, conversion, and maintenance for commercial and national defense assets. This role requires the ability to access all Navy installations and other shipyards by obtaining DBIDS and NAVSEA badges.

Requirements

Working knowledge and understanding of welding standards, such as Tech-Pub-278, Tech-Pub-248, MIL-STD-1689.
Knowledge of proper joint designs IAW MIL-STD-22D.
Ability to weld different materials with stick and TIG.
Experience with carbon steel/cromoly, cuni, and stainless steel materials.
Ability to operate with welding banks.
Some knowledge of the operation of welding machines such as SYNCHROWAVE 250 and POWCON ST-300.
Ability to troubleshoot problems with TIG lines and machines.
Ability to stick weld fillet and butt joints.
Willingness to learn other procedures.
Ability to pass a 6-G carbon steel pipe welding test.
Ability to access all Navy installations and other shipyards by obtaining DBIDS and NAVSEA badges.

Nice To Haves

Experience with various metals such as cuni, monel, stainless steel, alum and carbon steel/cromoly (for JP2).
Willingness to learn TIG welding (for JP2).

Responsibilities

Weld all types of materials using TIG and stick welding techniques.
Weld plate and pipe, including various joint designs such as sockets, butts, E.B rings, backing rings, and open butts.
Weld various metals including cuni, monel, stainless steel, alum, and carbon steel/cromoly.
Set up and operate welding machines such as SYNCHROWAVE 250 and POWCON ST-300.
Troubleshoot problems with TIG lines and machines.
Weld with the use of a mag-base mirror for TIG and stick welding.
Utilize Metro PCP 912-04 for P-I piping.
Perform fillet and butt joints using stick welding.
Pass a 6-G carbon steel pipe welding test.
Obtain DBIDS and NAVSEA badges to access Navy installations and shipyards.
