We currently have an exciting opportunity in our Inside Machine department. This position specifically is located in Norfolk, Virginia. We are looking for five (5) Diesel Shaft Mechanics J1 - J4 to work 3 pm - 11pm.

Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent plus five (5) years directly related experience.
Main shafting experience.
At least 5 years’ experience in diesel engine repair and or outside machinist.
Must be able to complete work with little guidance from Supervisor.
Must have basic knowledge of shop equipment.
Works well with others.
Ability to set up dial indicators and perform an alignment check (Journeyperson 2).
Ability to identify and properly use diesel specialty tools (Journeyperson 2).
Knowledge and competency of shaft alignments (Journeyperson 2).
Ability to read and understand QA-17s and documentation purposes (Journeyperson 2).
Knowledge of applicable NAVSEA Standard Items and OSHA standards (Journeyperson 2).
Ability to identify proper procedures when safety hazards are encountered (Journeyperson 2).
Familiar with chemicals used and when they are used, the environmental and biological impact of the chemicals, and the proper way to dispose of chemicals and waste (Journeyperson 2).
Good housekeeping skills (Journeyperson 1).
Ability to identify safety hazards (Journeyperson 1).
Knowledge of hot work requirements, rules and regulations (Journeyperson 1).
Familiar with applicable NAVSEA Standard Items and OSHA standards (Journeyperson 1).
Know how to use and take care of hand and power tools (Journeyperson 1).
Knowledge of precision and measuring instruments, understand their basic uses and identify those required for the job (Journeyperson 1).
Able to calculate metric conversions (Journeyperson 1).
Knowledge of Expanded Process Control Procedure /Process Control Procedure/CWP requirements (Journeyperson 1).
Knowledge of metal and the make-up of metals (Journeyperson 1).
Able to identify thread pitch and size (Journeyperson 1).
WAF trained (Journeyperson 1).
Able to read tech manuals and drawings (Journeyperson 1).
Must be familiar with applicable NAVSEA Standard Items and OSHA standards (Journeyperson 3).

Responsibilities

Accomplish work in accordance with work specifications safety, with the highest quality, in a professional manner.
Regular, reliable attendance on-site is an essential function of the job.
Oversee a small group of people and lead the job from start to finish via work specification and EPCP/PCP/CWP (Journeyperson 4).
Plan, organize and prioritize well and handle problems and concerns without assistance (Journeyperson 4).
Set up a job and correspond with other shops (Journeyperson 4).
Replace, repair and test diesel engine components (Journeyperson 4).
Execute a specification item with no supervision (Journeyperson 4).
Use dial indicator and perform alignment checks (Journeyperson 4).
Perform checkpoints with minimal supervision (Journeyperson 4).
Read tech manuals and drawings (Journeyperson 3).
Assist in job from start to finish via work specification and EPCP/PCP/CWP (Journeyperson 3).
Complete a JSA and identify all safety issues (Journeyperson 3).
With little supervision, replace, repair and test diesel engine components (Journeyperson 3).
Troubleshoot cooling systems and report discrepancies (Journeyperson 3).
Execute a specification item with little supervision (Journeyperson 3).
Accurately write an Intershop Work Request that contains all requested work in detail (Journeyperson 3).
Execute all EPCP/PCP work (Journeyperson 3).
Set valve lash (Journeyperson 3).
Assist with replacing, repairing and testing diesel engine components (Journeyperson 1).
Perform their job safely (Journeyperson 1).
Know what P.P.E. to use and when (Journeyperson 1).
Navigate a ship and understand compartment designation (Journeyperson 1).
Understand ship nomenclature (Journeyperson 1).
Understand the purpose and information contained in Safety Data Sheets (Journeyperson 1).
Understand the process and procedure for spills (Journeyperson 1).
