Pipe Fitter

Blue Origin•Huntsville, AL
•Onsite

About The Position

This role supports the fabrication, assembly, integration, and testing of advanced piping systems for a new program at Blue Origin. The successful candidate will perform complex pipe-fitting and mechanical assembly operations on precision piping hardware. In this development environment, technicians will build work centers, support first-article builds, contribute to process development, and help establish pipe-fitting methods that can scale to production. Candidates will interpret drawings and work instructions, lay out and fabricate piping, join and install pipe sections, and integrate subassemblies into larger systems. They will also conduct pressure tests, inspect and troubleshoot systems, document work and test results, support corrective actions, and maintain a clean and safe work area. Final technician level placement will depend on verified experience, an on-site hands-on skills assessment, and evaluator feedback. Blue Origin Operations includes Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance, and provides manufacturing and supply-chain support across Blue Origin facilities.

  • Lay out pipe paths and positions according to structural and engineering plans, coordinating routing with other trades and disciplines.
  • Measure, cut, thread, and bend pipes to specified dimensions, and document as-built dimensions in quality management systems.
  • Join pipe sections using welding, brazing, soldering, or threaded fittings in accordance with work instructions and engineering requirements; ensure connections have proper torque and alignment.
  • Support integration of piping subassemblies into larger system packages, including instrumentation hookup, valve installation, and installation of hangers and supports.
  • Perform hydrostatic and pneumatic pressure tests to detect leaks and verify system integrity; document test results and report findings in quality management systems.
  • Diagnose piping-system malfunctions; replace worn or failed components such as valves, seals, gaskets, and hangers; and support disposition and corrective-action activities.
  • Perform in-process inspections using precision measurement tools to verify fit-up, alignment, and dimensional compliance.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with FOD-prevention and 5S standards.
  • Identify and report nonconformances.
