Mallard Creek Polymers is seeking a qualified Pilot Lab Technician to join our team. Who you are: Our ideal teammate… Has a passion for product development in a chemical manufacturing setting. The Pilot Lab Technician will be able to work on several projects and collaborate with the Research & Development team. They are familiar with safe work practices in a lab setting and take safety seriously. The pilot lab technician is responsible for lab scale synthesis and documentation of experimental styrene butadiene latex (SB) and acrylic latex. The ideal individual will be resilient and able to work in an environment with fluctuating temperatures, monitor processes of variable lengths, and prioritize projects successfully. This Pilot Lab Technician must be able to work independently and manage time effectively to make sure that projects are completed by their deadline. What We Need:The Pilot Lab Technician is needed to support the Pilot Lab operations at MCP. The primary role of the Pilot Labe Technician is to work directly with our Chemists and R&D team to create pilot production quantities of new products or formulations. This role is critical to the R&D team and their plans to scale up various formulas for production at the chemical plant. The Pilot Lab Technician will need to be well versed in safe work habits in the lab setting due to the hazardous nature of chemicals that they will be working with. Operating all equipment in a safe manner is necessary for the role. They will work daily with a variety of members of the R&D team to coordinate recipes and schedules to meet business needs. MCP needs someone who can work autonomously and collaboratively within a small team and across departments. The Pilot Lab Tech position requires some flexibility in the work schedule due to overtime being needed on a consistent basis.

Requirements

  • B.S. with a major in Chemistry or high school diploma and 2 years’ experience in a Pilot Lab
  • Be familiar with laboratory and pilot laboratory processes and equipment.
  • Understand chemical reactions.
  • Must be able to work unsupervised and independently, setting timelines for project completion.
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written
  • Able to use all necessary PPE, including a respirator.
  • Must be able to work in an environment that has fluctuating temperatures.
  • Must be able to work overtime.

Responsibilities

  • Operating lab equipment including reactors, strippers, and sensitive analytical characterization instruments.
  • Coordinating with R&D staff on production requirements for scale up projects.
  • Obtaining sample batches and coordinating with Q.C. lab to obtain characterization data.
  • Accurately recording and reporting data with observations and recommendations
  • Coordinating the procurement of needed raw materials and chemicals.
  • Tracking and maintaining equipment and parts
  • Handling hazardous chemicals with appropriate PPE
  • Participating in departmental and company meetings
  • Working overtime on a regular basis and different work schedules depending on the testing needs
