About The Position

Atrium Health Levine Children's Hospital is seeking PICU APPs (Acute Care Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants) in Charlotte, NC. This role involves critical care in a Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit setting, including emergency services and cardio-thoracic surgery. Patients are typically intubated on ventilators and/or have hemodynamic instability. The focus is on very invasive procedures and the hemodynamic management of very critical patients. The APP will manage ventilator settings, vasopressors, and solve complex clinical cases. The schedule includes a mixed rotation of shifts covering weekdays, nights, swing shifts, holidays, and weekends. This position is full-time, 40 hours per week, with 13-hour shifts and a rotation that includes weekends and holidays (greater than 20% of FTE includes weekend and/or night coverage).

Requirements

  • Must have or be eligible for a DEA license.
  • Approved to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the state one works.
  • Eligible for prescriptive authority application through the Board of Nursing or Medical Board in SC required.
  • BLS required per policy guidelines with expiration date greater than 90 days from date of beginning practice.
  • Demonstrates appropriate critical thinking, interpersonal skills, and the ability to prioritize and concentrate.
  • Nurse Practitioner: Master's Degree or Doctorate of Nursing Practice required.
  • Nurse Practitioner: License to practice as a Registered Nurse required.
  • Nurse Practitioner: Certification in the area of practice from a nationally recognized certifying body required.
  • Physician Assistant: Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program required.
  • Physician Assistant: Master's Degree preferred.
  • Physician Assistant: Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • ACNP, AGACNP, PNP-AC or NNP board certification preferred according to population served.

Responsibilities

  • Performs initial and periodic medical history, physical examinations, and daily assessments.
  • Records findings of examinations, assessments, and plan of care.
  • Performs a wide range of surgical and/or medical procedures.
  • Writes appropriate prescriptions and administers medications.
  • Orders and interprets laboratory and radiology examinations.
  • Determines treatment plan for patient.
  • Documents all patient encounters, records observations, interventions, and actions in a medically appropriate manner on the patient's medical record.
  • Demonstrates appropriate critical thinking, interpersonal skills, and the ability to prioritize and concentrate.
  • Acts as a patient advocate for the population served.
  • Attends, participates, and contributes to group/practice meetings and development of policies and procedures when requested.
  • Cardiothoracic Surgery Setting with less than 5 years CVTS experience.
  • Manages STS Database data collection pre and post-operatively.
  • Performs clinic duties one day a week with assigned physician.
  • Provides weeknight Call on a Q3 or Q4 rotation.
  • Provides weekend Call responsibilities on a Q3 or Q4 rotation.
