About The Position

Piano accompanists may play for choral ensembles, musical productions, and private vocal and instrumental music students. Accompanist duties include playing during regular class sessions, rehearsals, recitals, private lessons, and performances; some performances may be off campus. This role works under the close supervision of music directors and instructors. Other related duties may be assigned. This is a temporary part-time position working 0-19 hours per week as scheduled.

Requirements

  • At least one year of experience in playing piano as an accompanist with individuals or groups
  • Ability to play in a wide variety of musical styles, such as classical, jazz, pop and Broadway
  • Basic knowledge of music theory including notation, musical symbols, scales, chords, terminology, harmony and rhythm
  • Ability to listen closely and follow oral instructions
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
  • Regular attendance as scheduled is an essential job function as it demonstrates dependability towards the performance of job duties.

  • Experience playing piano in front of audiences
  • Ability to play difficult music at an advanced level
  • Ability to adjust playing style to match differing student/ensemble levels
  • Work experience in a community college/higher education environment
