About The Position

The Astronomy Telescope Leader is responsible for facilitating a few evening observing sessions and supporting students in their hands-on learning of astronomy concepts. This role helps ensure a safe, organized, and educational experience for students using telescopes and engaging with the night sky.

Requirements

  • Completion of introductory physics or astronomy coursework
  • Familiarity with the proper use and care of telescopes and related equipment
  • Basic knowledge of constellations, planets, and the night sky
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with peers
  • Dependable, punctual, and comfortable working evening hours outdoors

Responsibilities

  • Set up and take down telescopes and related equipment at the observing site
  • Lead and supervise weekly evening observing sessions
  • Guide students in proper use of telescopes and observing techniques
  • Maintain accurate attendance records for observing sessions
  • Ensure safe handling and care of telescopes and equipment
  • Assist with basic troubleshooting of equipment as needed
