About The Position

VitalCore Health Strategies is hiring a PRN staff Physician (M.D. or D.O.) at Newberry Correctional Facility in Newberry, Michigan. The Staff Physician works under the supervision of the Site Medical Director, with broad latitude for independent judgment and initiative, and is an integral part of the facility’s medical team. The physician is expected to take a leading role in delivering health care services to patients.

Requirements

Must be a licensed Physician in the state of employment.
Current DEA registration.
Board certified and qualified under state laws and regulations to practice medicine.

Responsibilities

Ensure medical record documentation is in SOAP format, problem-oriented, and corresponds to the therapeutic order.
Ensure all documentation is timed, legible, and signed.
Ensure verbal or telephone orders are countersigned within 72 hours.
Adhere to the approved formulary before utilizing non-formulary procedures.
Document relevant observations and conclusions supporting the need for non-formulary medication on the request form for Medical Director approval.
Use available in-house personnel to treat and resolve identified problems before making off-site referrals.
Provide on-site emergency treatment and respond appropriately to urgent or emergency situations.
Demonstrate proper cardiopulmonary resuscitation technique and related drug therapy.
Support standards of medical care by adhering to existing policies and procedures.
Serve as a resource to professional and non-professional personnel, providing instruction as needed.
Attend medical staff meetings as required and provide monthly staff in-service education as requested.
Participate in monthly quality-of-care and chart reviews as requested.
Sponsor Physician Assistants as required.
Notify the Site Medical Director and/or Site Health Services Administrator of schedule changes.
Help arrange coverage of medical services if unavailable for an extended period.
Perform other duties as requested by the Site Medical Director.
