About The Position

VitalCore Health Strategies is hiring a PRN Staff Physician (M.D. or D.O.) at Alger Correctional Facility in Wetmore, Michigan. The Staff Physician works under the supervision of the Site Medical Director, with broad latitude for independent judgment and initiative, and is an integral part of the facility’s medical team. The physician is expected to take a leading role in delivering health care services to patients.

Requirements

• Licensed Physician in the state of employment.
• Current DEA registration.
• Board certified and qualified under state laws and regulations to practice medicine.

Responsibilities

• Document medical records in SOAP format, ensure they are problem-oriented and correspond to therapeutic orders, and ensure documentation is timed, legible, and signed.
• Ensure verbal or telephone orders are countersigned within 72 hours.
• Follow the approved formulary before using non-formulary procedures or medications; document observations and conclusions supporting non-formulary medication requests for Medical Director approval.
• Use available in-house resources to treat and resolve identified problems before making off-site referrals.
• Provide emergency treatment on-site and respond appropriately to urgent or emergency situations.
• Demonstrate proper cardiopulmonary resuscitation technique and related drug therapy.
• Support medical care standards by adhering to existing policies and procedures.
• Provide instructions and serve as a resource to professional and non-professional personnel as needed.
• Attend medical staff meetings as required and provide monthly staff in-service education as requested.
• Participate in monthly quality-care and chart reviews as requested.
• Sponsor Physician Assistants as required.
• Notify the Site Medical Director and/or Site Health Services Administrator of schedule changes.
• Help arrange coverage for medical services when unavailable for an extended period.
• Perform other duties as requested by the Site Medical Director.
