About The Position

The Iowa City Veterans Affairs Health Care System is hiring a full-time Physician for the Primary Care Service Line at its VA Clinic in Burlington, Iowa. This is an open continuous announcement through January 13, 2027. The first referral cutoff is October 15, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. EST, with weekly cutoffs thereafter. Applications received after a cutoff may be reviewed as needed until the position is filled. The role provides primary care to patients enrolled in the physician’s panel and manages scheduled and unscheduled patients in an outpatient clinic. Panel size is determined using VHA PCMM software and considers factors such as patient acuity, support staff, and available examination rooms. The physician may also have collateral duties involving a defined subsection of primary care patients or special projects relevant to the assigned section. The physician may supervise or collaborate with a mid-level provider, providing clinical oversight and review, and may serve as a surrogate for colleagues’ patients when they are on leave. The role requires timely clinical documentation and administrative work, care that meets professional standards, and practice within granted privileges except when required by an emergency. The position supports the VA Midwest Health Care Network’s Whole Health approach, which emphasizes personalized health plans, healing relationships and environments, and connection to the Veteran’s community. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Alternative hours may be agreed upon at hire. The announcement states there is no Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting.
