About The Position

The University of Kansas Health System (TUKHS) and the Department of Surgery at the University of Kansas Medical Center are seeking a board-eligible/board-certified academic surgeon. This is a full-time faculty position and requires fellowship training and an interest in General and Acute Care Surgery. The Division offers a dynamic, high-volume clinical environment supported by the region’s longest-standing American College of Surgeons Verified Level I Trauma Center and the only ACS Verified Center for Emergency General Surgery, with approximately 2,800 trauma admissions and nearly 2,600 emergency general surgery patient encounters annually. Faculty benefit from a collegial, team-based practice model and opportunities for academic involvement through teaching, research, quality improvement, and program development. Qualified candidates will have completed fellowship training in Surgical Critical Care or Acute Care Surgery and demonstrate a strong commitment to the full spectrum of acute care surgery, including trauma, emergency general surgery, and the elective surgical management of complex patients. Candidates should possess excellent clinical skills, a collaborative and patient-centered approach to care, and a strong interest in supporting the academic mission of the Department through education, research, and community outreach. A strong commitment to the academic mission is essential, as the position requires active engagement in clinical, translational, or outcomes-based research within the field of General Surgery and Acute Care Surgery. Applicants will be expected to collaborate across disciplines to advance innovative research initiatives, drive scholarly productivity, and contribute regularly to peer-reviewed publications and presentations. Furthermore, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the education of medical students and the mentorship of General Surgery residents across inpatient, outpatient, and operative settings. A genuine passion for teaching, hands-on curriculum development, quality improvement, and fostering the next generation of academic surgeons is highly desired.
