About The Position

Sanford Health is seeking a Board Eligible/Board Certified Rheumatologist to establish a new outpatient rheumatology practice in Rapid City, South Dakota. This role involves building a practice from the ground up, including the development of a new Autoimmune Infusion Center. The position offers a 100% outpatient, Monday-Friday clinic schedule with no inpatient responsibilities or after-hours call. The physician will see approximately 15-20 patients per day and will benefit from an established primary care referral base and collaboration with an orthopedic surgery group and a multidisciplinary team. This is an opportunity to shape the future of rheumatology services in the region, design workflows, influence growth, and build a practice that aligns with clinical passions.

Requirements

  • M.D. or D.O. degree.
  • Successful completion of an Internal Medicine or Pediatric residency program.
  • Completion of a fellowship in Rheumatology accredited by the ACGME, the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada.
  • Certification in the primary area of practice by the appropriate specialty/subspecialty board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, as applicable.
  • Applicants who are not board certified at the time of application but who have completed their fellowship training within the last five years shall be eligible, however must achieve board certification within five years from the date of completion of their fellowship training unless the appropriate governing Board waives such requirement.
  • Demonstrate active involvement of inpatient services to be at least 50 patients in the last 12 months (if applicable).
  • Demonstrate active involvement in the care of 50 patients in clinical practice in the last 12 months (if quality profile is not available).

Nice To Haves

  • Training at residency and fellowship programs accredited by organizations other than ACGME, AOA, or Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada may be considered via the waiver of eligibility process.
  • Those applicants who are not board certified at the time of application but who have completed their fellowship training within the last five years shall be eligible, however must achieve board certification within five years from the date of completion of their fellowship training unless the appropriate governing Board waives such requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Perform history and physical examination.
  • Admit patients (if applicable to the setting).
  • Provide consultative services.
  • Evaluate, diagnose, treat, and provide consultation to patients of all ages with diseases of the joints, muscles, bones, and tendons.
  • Design workflows and build the practice.
  • Develop and expand an Autoimmune Infusion Center to provide comprehensive biologic therapy services.
