About The Position

Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is seeking an Orthopedic Sports Medicine surgeon to join their practice in Rapid City. This role offers a mix of sports and general orthopedic care, with a schedule of Monday-Friday and a shared call rotation. The practice includes 2-3 clinic days per week, seeing 20-25 patients per day, and 2 OR days per week with a block schedule available. The clinical focus involves diagnosing and treating acute and chronic MS injuries, performing arthroscopic procedures, and general orthopedic care for all age groups. Collaboration with advanced practice providers, physical therapists, athletic trainers, and primary care physicians is a key aspect of the team-based care model. The position is in a growing market with a planned Level III hospital opening in 2030.

Requirements

  • M.D. or D.O. degree.
  • Successful completion of a hospital-affiliated orthopedic surgical residency program or a clinical Fellowship of at least five years’ duration accredited by the ACGME, the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada in the residency.
  • Certification by the appropriate specialty board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, as applicable.
  • For those applicants that are not board certified at the time of application, but who have completed their residency training within the last five years; must achieve board certification within five years from the date of completion of their residency training unless appropriate governing Board waives such requirement.
  • Demonstrate at least 200 orthopedic surgery procedures in the last 24 months.
  • If not applying directly out of a residency, provide a quality profile from hospital(s) where he/she currently has privileges showing clinical activity for the past 24 months, including numbers of procedures performed, morbidity, mortality, infection rates, and other complications.
  • If a quality profile is not available, documentation of the applicant’s hospital-based clinical activity for the past 24 months is required.

Responsibilities

  • Admit, evaluate, diagnose, and provide pre-, intra-, and postoperative care for patients of all ages.
  • Perform orthopedic surgical procedures for patients of all ages.
