About The Position

Sanford Health is seeking a Board Eligible or Board Certified Outpatient Nephrologist to join a well-established department in Iron Mountain, Michigan. This position involves a combined Nephrology and Internal Medicine model, offering a great work-life balance with an excellent team and culture. The practice includes basic to complex Nephrology cases, with the clinic located adjacent to a Trauma Level IV hospital. Physicians are encouraged to participate in medical education and research.

Requirements

M.D. or D.O. degree.
Successful completion of an Internal Medicine residency program.
Completion of a fellowship in Nephrology accredited by the ACGME, the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada.
Certification in the primary area of practice by the appropriate specialty/subspecialty board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, as applicable.
Applicants not board certified at the time of application but who have completed fellowship training within the last five years must achieve board certification within five years from the date of completion of their fellowship training unless the appropriate governing Board waives such requirement.
Demonstrate active involvement in at least 50 nephrology cases in the last 12 months (either through fellowship log or quality profile from hospital(s) with privileges showing clinical activity, including numbers of procedures performed, morbidity, mortality, infection rates, and other complications).
If a quality profile is not available, documentation of clinical setting activity for the last 12 months is required, demonstrating active involvement in the care of 50 nephrology cases in clinical practice.

Nice To Haves

Training at residency and fellowship programs accredited by organizations other than ACGME, AOA, or Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada may be considered via the waiver of eligibility process.
Those applicants who are not board certified at the time of application but who have completed their fellowship training within the last five years shall be eligible, however must achieve board certification within five years from the date of completion of their fellowship training unless the appropriate governing Board waives such requirement.

Responsibilities

Perform history and physical examinations.
Admit patients (if applicable to setting).
Evaluate, diagnose, treat, and provide consultation to adolescent and adult patients with illnesses and disorders of the kidney, high blood pressure, fluid and mineral balance, and dialysis of body wastes when the kidneys do not function.
Participate in medical education and research.
