About The Position

Bring your clinical expertise to Baghdad for up to a one-year international assignment that spans primary and urgent care, initial emergency stabilization, and medical evacuation coordination. Current ATLS certification is required. At International SOS Government Medical Services, you'll support healthcare programs that improve patient care and operational readiness across the U.S. and internationally. Founded in 1984, International SOS operates in more than 90 countries, delivering healthcare, medical assistance, emergency response, and workforce support services worldwide. You'll provide outpatient, urgent care, and initial emergency medical care within a collaborative international healthcare program supporting U.S. government personnel in Iraq. Working alongside physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and support staff, you'll evaluate a wide variety of clinical presentations while practicing with a broad clinical scope alongside physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and support staff. This is a hands-on clinical role providing broad patient care across primary, urgent, and initial emergency services. You'll participate in the assessment and stabilization of urgent or emergent presentations, support emergency preparedness, and coordinate medical evacuation when patients require care beyond the clinic's capabilities.

Requirements

  • MD or DO from an accredited medical education program.
  • Board certification in Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, or Internal Medicine.
  • Full, unrestricted medical license in a U.S. state, territory, or commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
  • Current Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certification is required; current BLS and ACLS certifications are also required.
  • At least five years of recent physician experience, including a minimum of six months in active clinical practice within the last year.
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident Card holder with a valid passport.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an MRPT security clearance, meet program physical-readiness requirements, and relocate to Iraq for the duration of the project.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver primary, urgent, and initial emergency care for a broad range of medical conditions, including preventive services, health maintenance, and patient education.
  • Assess, stabilize, and manage urgent or emergent presentations while coordinating higher levels of care and medical evacuation when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with physicians, APPs, nurses, and support staff to provide coordinated, patient-centered care.
  • Manage limited follow-up of established chronic conditions and maintain accurate clinical documentation.
  • Support operational readiness by participating in emergency response activities, maintaining compliance with clinical protocols and quality standards, and coordinating patient transfers when higher levels of care are required.
